Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Bags Print E-mail

TSA is now allowing "Checkpoint Friendly" Laptop Bags

To help streamline the security process and better protect laptop computers, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is now allowing passengers to leave their laptop computers in bags that meet new "checkpoint friendly" standards. Computer bags that will produce a clear and unobstructed image of the laptop when undergoing X-ray screening will be allowed to remain in bags for screening.

For a bag to be considered checkpoint friendly it should meet the following standards:

  • A designated laptop-only section
  • The laptop-only section completely unfolds to lay flat on the X-ray belt
  • No metal snaps, zippers or buckles inside, underneath or on top of the laptop-only section
  • No pockets on the inside or outside of the laptop-only section
  • Nothing packed in the laptop-only section other than the computer itself.

Note: This applies only for destinations in the U.S. under TSA screening standards and protocols. Foreign locations may vary due to local regulations.

The TSA has not endorsed any specific bag design or manufacturer and will only allow laptops to stay in bags through screening if they provide a clear and unobstructed X-ray image of the laptop. Visit the TSA website at http://www.tsa.gov/for images of checkpoint friendly designs and guidance on use.

New Airline Luggage Fee Policy Print E-mail
Tuesday, 22 July 2008 00:00

Northwest Airlines and most domestic U.S. Airlines are now charging for checked luggage.

According to Northwest policy, effective for domestic tickets booked on or after July 10, 2008 for travel on or after August 28, 2008, Northwest will charge $15.00 each way ($30.00 roundtrip) for the first checked bag.  The second bag fee is $25.00 each way.  The fee for three or more bags is $100.00 per bag each way.  Northwest's new fee applies to customers traveling within the Unites States and to/from Canada.  Full-fare coach passengers and frequent flyer elites are exempt from the policy.  Northwest's first bag fee matches the fees charged by American Airlines, Spirit Airlines, United Airlines and US Airways.  Please note that most, but not all,  airlines have a similar policy.

Please check the web site of your carrier for up to date luggage policies prior to departure.  Luggage fees are calculated and collected at check in.

Carry on luggage is restricted to each airlines policy and several airlines will charge a penalty for passengers who try to carry on more than their allowed limits.

Oversized and excess bags will have additional costs.
